Chernor Mahmoud Jalloh Assumes NASSIT Leadership, Pledges Stronger, Transparent and Trusted Institution
Chernor Mahmoud Jalloh has officially assumed office as Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), pledging to strengthen the institution’s financial management, operational efficiency, professionalism and public trust.
Jalloh took over from Mohamed Fouad Daboh at an official handover ceremony attended by the NASSIT Board of Trustees, management and staff.
In his maiden address as Director General, Jalloh described his appointment as both an honour and a significant responsibility, given NASSIT’s mandate to protect the social security contributions and future welfare of workers and pensioners across Sierra Leone.
“I stand before you today with a deep sense of humility and responsibility as I formally take over as Director General of NASSIT,” he said.
Jalloh expressed gratitude to Allah for making the occasion possible and thanked President Julius Maada Bio for the confidence reposed in him, as well as Parliament for confirming his appointment.
He also commended his predecessor, Mohamed Fouad Daboh, for his service to NASSIT and for ensuring what he described as a smooth and orderly transition. He wished Daboh success in his future endeavours.
The new NASSIT boss said the institution carries a profound responsibility because every contribution represents the hard-earned income of a worker, while every pension represents dignity and financial security after years of service.
He therefore pledged to uphold integrity, professionalism, accountability and prudence in the management of the institution.
Jalloh said his immediate priority would be to listen, learn and gain a clear understanding of NASSIT’s current position before setting out a long-term direction for the institution.
He said he would work closely with the Board of Trustees, the responsible ministry, management and staff to assess NASSIT’s financial, operational, technological and institutional position, while identifying areas that require reform and improvement.
Addressing staff directly, Jalloh emphasised that his leadership would be collaborative rather than hierarchical.
“I want to assure the staff that I intend to lead with you, not simply lead over you,” he stated.
He acknowledged the experience and institutional knowledge within NASSIT, urging staff to contribute their ideas, expertise and professionalism towards achieving the institution’s objectives.
Jalloh further stressed that NASSIT’s ultimate responsibility is to its contributors and pensioners, who expect their contributions to be managed responsibly and their benefits processed accurately and paid on time.
According to him, restoring and strengthening public confidence in NASSIT would remain a central pillar of his administration.
“My ambition is simple: to help build a NASSIT that is financially strong, professionally managed, efficient, transparent and trusted by the people it exists to serve,” he said.
While acknowledging that his administration would encounter challenges, Jalloh expressed optimism that meaningful progress could be achieved through cooperation and collective responsibility among the Board, management and staff.
He concluded by thanking the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees, management and staff for their support, saying he looked forward to working with them to advance the institution’s mandate and strengthen confidence in NASSIT.
