Speaker Thomas Urges WAEC To Immediately Release Withheld WASSCE Results Where Evidence Is Insufficient

The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Thomas, has urged the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to immediately release the withheld 2026 WASSCE results of candidates against whom there is insufficient evidence of examination malpractice.
The Speaker made the call while delivering a ruling in Parliament following the appearance of the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad O. Sackey, who was summoned to respond to concerns raised by Members of Parliament from both sides of the aisle over the withholding of thousands of WASSCE results.
In his ruling, the Speaker stated: “I want to urge WAEC to release withheld results of those kids who they do not have sufficient evidence against with immediate effect.”
He further directed that a committee, including representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), be established to review the results released by WAEC, examine the Ministry’s involvement in the recruitment of examination officers for public examinations, and investigate WAEC’s institutional capacity to effectively conduct public examinations.
The Speaker also instructed Minister Sackey to report back to Parliament within four working days, providing details of the expected timeline for the conclusion of the investigation.
The ruling comes amid growing public concern over the withholding of thousands of candidates’ WASSCE results, with increasing calls for transparency, fairness and accountability in the examination process
