APC Nullifies Ward 227 Election, Orders Fresh Polls under National Supervision

The All Peoples Congress (APC) Independent Elections Complaint Board (IECB) has nullified the October 11, 2026 rerun elections in Ward 227, Constituency 066, Karene District, following findings of serious electoral irregularities, and ordered a fresh election under direct national supervision.

In its ruling dated November 5, 2026, the Board upheld a petition filed by Abu Sheriff Conteh and other aspirants, citing concerns including alleged over-voting, ballot irregularities, wrongful invalidation of votes, restrictions on polling agents and the use of unauthorised electoral officials.

The Board also expressed concern over a reported discrepancy between the 142 people said to have voted and the 210 votes declared. It noted that repeated electoral failures, particularly as this was the fourth rerun in the ward, had undermined confidence in the process.

Consequently, the IECB ordered a fresh election to be personally supervised by IEMC National Coordinator, Haji Hassan Kamara Esq., alongside officials of his choosing. The Board further directed that the venue be relocated from Menthen Village to another location within Ward 227 and that each contesting team be allowed at least two registered APC agents.

The decision is aimed at ensuring a transparent, credible and fair electoral process in Ward 227.
