“I Was Tipped Five Times for Vice President, But God Did Not Destine Me for That Role” — Hon. Pat Sowe

Pat Sowe, a prominent member of the All People’s Congress, has expressed continued doubt over the outcome of the 2023 general elections, saying he still does not understand how the party lost.

Speaking at a gathering in London, Hon. Sowe stated that in his view the APC “won the 2023 elections,” adding that he remains unconvinced by the declared results. His remarks come amid ongoing internal debate within the party over the outcome of the polls.

He urged party members, particularly young people, to remain engaged and take up leadership positions within the APC, stressing the need for renewal and continuity. According to him, the party still commands strong public support and should focus less on rival political narratives and more on internal strengthening.

Hon. Sowe also called on members to reduce political infighting and avoid excessive focus on the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), instead encouraging a more forward-looking party agenda.

Reflecting on his personal political journey, he claimed he had been repeatedly considered for the position of Vice President during the tenure of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, noting that the appointment ultimately went to Victor Bockarie Foh. He said he believes “God did not destine” him for that role.

He further shared personal experiences from his career as a sea captain, stating that he acquired properties in London and the United States, and suggested that perceptions of jealousy should not distract from his contributions.

Hon. Sowe added that since 2018 he has taken a step back from frontline party leadership and now encourages younger members to take on more active roles in shaping the future of the APC.
