HADP Urges APC to Query Hon. Tamenko Over Alleged Remarks on Political Inducements

The Humble Africans Development Party (HADP) has called on the leadership of the All People’s Congress (APC) to formally query Hon. Alhaji Sorieba Turay, popularly known as Hon. Tamenko, over recent public statements relating to hypothetical political inducements.
In a formal complaint addressed to the leadership of the APC, with copies to the Speaker of Parliament, the appropriate Parliamentary disciplinary Committee and the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), HADP expressed concern over remarks allegedly made by Hon. Turay during an interview on Probe Media Online TV’s Morning Report programme on August 27, 2026.
According to the complaint signed by HADP Founder and Leader, Abubakarr Alharazim, Hon. Turay reportedly discussed a hypothetical situation involving an offer of US$100,000 and a Land Cruiser or SUV from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), while also making remarks about taking opportunities while one is alive.
However, HADP clarified that it was not alleging that Hon. Turay had received such an offer or accepted a bribe, noting that the Member of Parliament had repeatedly stated that nobody had approached him.
The party said its concern centred on the message conveyed by the remarks and their potential impact on public confidence in elected representatives and public institutions.
“A Member of Parliament does not represent himself alone. He represents people who entrusted him with public responsibility,” the complaint stated.
HADP argued that Parliament should not be perceived as a place where elected representatives wait for opportunities to enrich themselves or where political representation could potentially become a matter of personal deals.
The party maintained that such remarks, even when made hypothetically, deserved scrutiny because they risk normalising attitudes towards political inducements that could undermine the integrity of public service.
HADP has therefore called on the APC to formally query Hon. Turay and urged Parliament to refer the matter to the appropriate disciplinary or ethics process.
The party also called on the Political Parties Regulation Commission to consider the matter within its lawful mandate.
Furthermore, HADP requested that the relevant authorities consider whether Hon. Turay should be temporarily relieved of any applicable party or parliamentary responsibilities while the matter is being examined, where permitted by law and parliamentary rules.
The party, however, stressed that Hon. Turay should be given a full and fair opportunity to explain the context of his statements.
“This is not about APC versus another political party. It is about the dignity of Parliament and the integrity of public office,” HADP stated.
According to the party, public office holders must be held to high ethical standards, noting that Parliament should remain an institution dedicated to serving the people rather than a platform for personal enrichment.
“Parliament is a place to serve the people, not a marketplace for personal opportunities,” the party emphasised.
