“I’m Coming With a New Spirit to Unite SierraLeone” — Former President Koroma Avers
Former President Ernest Bai Koroma has declared that he has returned to Sierra Leone with a renewed spirit and a commitment to promoting peace, national cohesion and unity, stressing that he now sees himself as a father to all Sierra Leoneans, regardless of political affiliation.
Speaking during his welcoming ceremony in Makeni, Koroma said his new role as a retired President carries a responsibility to contribute positively to the country’s peace and stability.
“I am coming with a new spirit as a father to all, both SLPP and APC. I come to foster peace and push national cohesion. I know the responsibility I carry.”
Koroma noted that while Nigeria has two retired Presidents who continue to contribute to national affairs, he is currently the only retired President of Sierra Leone, a position he said comes with a significant responsibility to the nation.
He further disclosed that he is prepared to serve as an adviser to both the APC and SLPP, offering counsel whenever called upon.
The former President also used the occasion to extend a message of forgiveness, saying he has forgiven everyone, including those who have spoken negatively about him or wronged him in the past.
Koroma’s remarks signal a renewed emphasis on reconciliation, political tolerance and national unity, as he begins his new chapter as a retired statesman and self-described father to all Sierra Leoneans.
