Degree Certificates to Be Printed Locally in Sierra Leone Soon
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, has disclosed plans for university degree certificates to be printed locally, a move expected to significantly reduce the long waiting periods graduates often face before receiving their certificates.
Speaking during an interview on Radio Democracy’s Good Morning Salone programme, Dr. Wurie said the Ministry is engaging the Government Printing Department to facilitate the local production of degree certificates.
The initiative is expected to enable graduates to receive their certificates more quickly, allowing them to pursue employment, scholarships and other opportunities without unnecessary administrative delays.
The Minister noted that the Government Printing Department has been modernised through a partnership with a Chinese company, improving its printing capacity and strengthening document security.
She, however, stressed that the local production of academic certificates must be supported by robust security features to prevent forgery and protect the credibility and integrity of Sierra Leone’s academic qualifications.
The proposed initiative is seen as a significant step towards improving efficiency in the country’s higher education sector and ensuring that graduates gain timely access to their academic credentials.
