The Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has announced that a Chinese national will be deported from Sierra Leone with immediate effect following allegations of assaulting a Sierra Leonean worker at the K.K Factory in the Western Rural District.
Speaking on the Good Morning Salone programme on Radio Democracy, the Minister said the decision follows an internal investigation launched after a disturbing video of the incident surfaced.

He explained that upon receiving the footage, he instructed his ministry’s team to investigate the matter, which reportedly confirmed that the worker was physically assaulted over allegations of stealing four cans of soft drinks.
According to the Minister, the investigation also revealed that some Sierra Leonean security personnel attached to the factory were involved in the incident and allegedly assisted in the assault.
“I received a video showing the brutal beating of a Sierra Leonean worker at KK Factory. I immediately forwarded it to my team for investigation, and the findings confirmed the assault,” Swaray stated. “The Chinese national will be deported, and investigations into the involvement of Sierra Leonean security personnel are ongoing.”
He further noted that while the deportation of the foreign national has been ordered, authorities are continuing their probe into the conduct of local security personnel allegedly linked to the incident.
The Ministry says it remains committed to ensuring that workers’ rights are protected and that all employers operating in the country adhere strictly to labour laws and standards.
