JFK Calls on Bio To Resign over Admitting Failure as Energy Minister

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, popularly known as JFK, has criticized President Julius Maada Bio over his remarks regarding the Ministry of Energy.
Speaking during the recent town hall meeting in Makeni, President Bio acknowledged that the challenges he encountered while overseeing the Ministry of Energy led him to hand over responsibility for the sector to Dr. Kandeh Yumkella. The President commended Yumkella for introducing significant reforms in the energy sector.
“When serving as Minister of Energy, I relinquished the position because of what I saw in the Ministry,” President Bio said, explaining that he entrusted the responsibility to Dr. Yumkella to oversee the sector until the appointment of a substantive minister.

Reacting to the President’s remarks, Kamara argued that the admission amounted to an acknowledgment of failure. He said that, in his view, the President should have resigned from the position of Minister of Energy after concluding that he could not effectively manage the ministry.
“In another country, the President should resign because he failed as Minister of Energy,” Kamara said. He further argued that if the President could not successfully manage the Ministry of Energy, it raises questions about his ability to manage the affairs of the nation.
