Guinea Bans Sierra Leonean Migrants from Passing Through Conakry International Airport

The Guinean authorities have reportedly issued an instruction prohibiting Sierra Leonean migrants from passing through Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport in Conakry.
In a letter dated August 17, 2026, the Central Director of Border Police, addressed to the Special Commissioner of Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport, said the directive forms part of Guinea’s efforts to combat irregular migration and human trafficking.
The letter, titled “Correct Application of Instructions,” formally informs the airport authorities of the prohibition on the passage of Sierra Leonean migrants through the airport.
The directive was issued by Guinea’s Ministry of Security and Civil Protection, General Directorate of National Police, Central Directorate of Border Police.

The communication, however, does not provide further details on the specific categories of Sierra Leonean migrants affected, the duration of the prohibition, or whether the measure applies to all Sierra Leonean passengers using the airport.
The development could have significant implications for Sierra Leonean travellers who use Conakry as a transit point for international travel.
Authorities in Sierra Leone are yet to publicly respond to the reported directive.
