Portee Wharf Alleged Cocaine Seizure Rocks Police As CDIID Opens High-Level Internal Probe

By VOS Investigation Desk

Credible information reaching Voice of Salone Newspaper indicates that the Sierra Leone Police Complaints, Discipline and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID) has launched an internal investigation into the controversial seizure of a suspected cocaine consignment at Portee Wharf in the east end of Freetown.

According to sources familiar with the matter, police officers who participated in the operation that led to the seizure have been summoned by investigators and are currently being questioned as part of what is emerging as a high-profile internal inquiry. Statements have reportedly been obtained from some officers, while others are expected to appear before investigators in the coming days.

Sources allege that the investigation is not limited to junior officers. Personnel across multiple ranks are reportedly under scrutiny, including constables, sergeants, superintendents, a chief superintendent, and even an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police. If confirmed, the probe could become one of the most sensitive internal investigations undertaken by the Sierra Leone Police in recent times.

The development has sparked widespread speculation within security circles, with questions being raised about the circumstances surrounding the seizure, the handling of the suspected narcotics, and whether established procedures were followed during and after the operation.

While the exact focus of the investigation remains unclear, sources maintain that investigators are examining the actions of all officers connected to the operation. It is not yet known whether all individuals considered relevant to the matter have been interviewed or whether any preliminary findings have been reached.

The secrecy surrounding the investigation has only intensified public interest in a case that has already attracted significant attention. Observers say the outcome of the probe could have serious implications for accountability and public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

The Sierra Leone Police have not issued an official statement on the status of the investigation.

As the investigation continues, the public will be watching closely to see whether the probe uncovers misconduct, clears those involved, or raises even more troubling questions about one of the country’s most talked-about drug seizure cases.

Voice of Salone Newspaper will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more verified information becomes available.
