Pressure Mounts as UK, Partners Push SLPP & APC To Act on Agreement

The Embassies and High Commissions of Germany, Ghana, Iceland, Ireland, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom have jointly called on all stakeholders in Sierra Leone to fully implement the eight-point agreement within the agreed timeline, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national unity and democratic governance.
In a statement responding to the recent assessment mission conducted by ECOWAS, UNOWAS, and the Commonwealth—collectively known as the International Moral Guarantors—the diplomatic missions welcomed the progress made so far. The joint mission, which concluded on 20 April 2026, reviewed the status of the Agreement for National Unity and the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee.
The partners commended the Government of Sierra Leone, the opposition APC, and other political actors for demonstrating commitment to advancing the implementation process. They described the developments as a positive step toward reinforcing dialogue, trust, and cooperation among key stakeholders.
However, they emphasized the importance of timely action, urging all parties to adhere strictly to the agreed roadmap and deadlines outlined in the eight-point agreement.
“As friends of Sierra Leone, we remain committed to supporting the government and all stakeholders in their efforts to strengthen participatory democracy and inclusive governance,” the statement noted.
The diplomatic missions further reaffirmed their support for initiatives that promote peace, stability, and prosperity for the people of Sierra Leone, stressing that sustained collaboration will be critical in consolidating democratic gains.
