The ongoing controversy surrounding who will emerge as the next SLPP Presidential Flagbearer has taken a dramatic new twist, following controversial remarks by SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa suggesting that President Julius Maada Bio could play a decisive role in determining the party’s next flagbearer.
But the question now being whispered in political circles is: Has President Bio privately advised his wife, First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, to step aside from the race?
The strong reaction from the Ebema Gbi camp to Chairman Batilo Songa’s statement has raised eyebrows and fueled further speculation about what may be happening behind closed doors within the ruling party.
Before Batilo Songa’s controversial remarks, supporters of the Ebema Gbi movement, associated with the political ambitions of First Lady Fatima Bio, had confidently claimed to have secured as much as 620 percent of SLPP delegates ahead of any flagbearer contest.
