Kroo Town Road Turns Chaotic: 3 Reportedly Dead, Several Injured as Police Clash with Youths

Reports reaching Voice of Salone Newspaper indicate that at least three people have reportedly died, while several others are said to have sustained injuries, following a violent confrontation between youths and police officers at Kroo Town Road in Freetown.
The incident reportedly occurred today, 13 September 2026, following a football encounter involving the Kroo Town and Kossoh Town communities. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to this newspaper, tensions had already been building, with early signs of confrontation reportedly observed yesterday at the Parade Field involving rival youth groups, locally described as “cliques.”
Eyewitnesses allege that members of the Kroo Town Road clique first confronted youths associated with Kossoh Town who were gathered around the Jagaban Office along Wellington Street. The Kossoh Town youths reportedly regrouped and responded with challenges, further escalating tensions in the area.
As the situation deteriorated, police officers intervened in an attempt to disperse the youths. Witnesses alleged that police fired tear gas and live ammunition during the intervention.
One woman, identified by eyewitnesses as Emma, was reportedly inside a cookery shop when she was allegedly struck by a live bullet. She is reported to have died as a result of the incident, although Voice of Salone Newspaper has not independently verified the circumstances surrounding her death.
There are also unconfirmed reports that two other people may have died following exposure to tear gas. Several others are reportedly injured, but the exact number of casualties remains unclear.
Meanwhile, witnesses further alleged that tear gas fired by police around Grandsess Street resulted in some houses catching fire. The blaze was reportedly brought under control by youths in the area.
