“Power Built on Bullying Never Lasts” — Kelfala Marah Warns

Senior politician Kelfala Marah has cautioned that leadership sustained through intimidation is ultimately unsustainable, stressing that democratic change remains inevitable when citizens become disillusioned.
Speaking during an interview on Africa Young Voices (AYV), Marah stated that “power built on bullying never lasts,” emphasizing that no individual or administration can remain in control indefinitely.
He noted that in a fragile democracy, longevity in power is never guaranteed, adding that change is always possible—particularly when the populace grows weary of governance practices.
Marah highlighted concerns surrounding the functioning of the judiciary, clarifying that while there is belief in the institution, its effectiveness lies in how it operates.
“It is not that we do not believe in the judiciary, but it is how the judiciary functions that will uphold democracy. The right things must be done,” he asserted.
On the political front, Marah underscored the importance of adherence to the Tripartite Agreement, warning that the government must not renege on its commitments.
He welcomed the presence of international moral guarantors, noting that his party intends to present concerns and highlight what he described as lapses in the government’s implementation of the agreement.
Marah’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions, as stakeholders continue to debate governance, electoral reforms, and institutional accountability in Sierra Leone. His statements reinforce calls for transparency, adherence to agreements, and the strengthening of democratic processes in the country.
