Chinese National Deported From Sierra Leone Following Assault Allegation

The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has confirmed that Mr. Lin Zhang, a Chinese national whose work permit was recently withdrawn over his alleged involvement in the assault of a Sierra Leonean worker, has departed the country.
According to the Ministry, a follow-up compliance exercise conducted by senior officials verified that Mr. Zhang had left Sierra Leone. Management of KK Company provided documentary evidence, including his travel itinerary, confirming his departure.

The company further informed the Ministry that it has imposed a permanent ban on Mr. Zhang from returning to Sierra Leone in connection with its operations. Disciplinary actions have also been taken against a local security guard and another employee allegedly linked to the incident involving factory worker Algassimu Barrie at Six Mile in the Western Rural District.
In addition, Labour and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) officials carried out a comprehensive inspection of KK Company’s operations. Following the assessment, the Ministry issued an Improvement Notice requiring the company to address identified concerns within a specified timeframe.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and ensuring compliance with labour laws and occupational safety standards across Sierra Leone.
