WAFA Suspends COFA League Indefinitely After Deadly Kossoh Town–Kroo Town Road Violence
The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has, with immediate effect, suspended the COFA League indefinitely following serious violence that erupted after Saturday’s match between Kossoh Town and Kroo Town Road.
According to WAFA, the post-match incident escalated into further violence in the Kroo Town Road community on Sunday, 13 September 2026, reportedly resulting in loss of lives and the destruction of property.
WAFA described the developments as a serious threat to public order and the safety of people and property, stressing that football must never become a catalyst for violence or a platform for retaliation.
The Association said it will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents and take appropriate regulatory and disciplinary action.
WAFA also acknowledged COFA’s decision to indefinitely postpone the scheduled fixture between Kossoh Town and Fourah Bay, but said that measure alone was insufficient given the gravity of the situation.
As a result, WAFA has directed that no COFA fixtures shall be played until further notice.
The Association has appealed to players, supporters, officials and community stakeholders to remain calm, exercise restraint and avoid further confrontation.
“The sanctity of human life takes precedence over football,” WAFA stated.
