Executives from Sierra Leone’s ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) are currently in Ghana to participate in the maiden edition of the African Political Parties Summit, taking place from 12–14 August 2025.
The SLPP delegation is led by its Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa, while the APC team is headed by Acting Chairman Osman Foday Yansaneh.
Themed “From Politics to Prosperity: Strengthening Inter-Party Collaboration for African Development and Economic Transformation”, the summit brings together political parties from across the continent to chart a united course toward peace, growth, and economic advancement in Africa.
The event, launched under the patronage of former Ghanaian President H.E. John Dramani Mahama, aims to foster dialogue, cooperation, and strategic partnerships among African political movements.
Before departure, APC representatives expressed optimism about their participation, noting that the summit provides an opportunity to present their party’s vision, expand international networks, and learn from the experiences of sister political movements across Africa.
On the SLPP side, party leaders described their involvement in the high-level session as more than symbolic representation—calling it a demonstration of vision, readiness, and political maturity.
They emphasized that this renewed strategic engagement reflects the SLPP’s commitment to steering Sierra Leone toward an era where governance delivers prosperity, and politics becomes a tool for lasting development. The party also framed its participation as part of a broader effort to strengthen international alliances ahead of what it described as a “decisive and historic victory” in the 2028 General Elections.
