Internal Affairs Minister Condemns Police Officer’s Assault on Keke Rider

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Morie Lengor, has strongly condemned the conduct of a police officer who was captured in a viral video allegedly slapping and striking a Keke rider with a stick.
Describing the officer’s actions as “very unfortunate and unprofessional,” Minister Lengor said he was deeply concerned after watching the video. He disclosed that he immediately attempted to contact the Inspector General of Police to address the matter. When he was unable to reach him, he contacted the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and instructed the police leadership to thoroughly investigate the incident and take appropriate disciplinary action.

The Minister emphasized that the incident highlights concerns about professionalism and training within the police force. He noted that there appear to be gaps in training that must be addressed to ensure officers conduct themselves in accordance with professional standards and respect for citizens’ rights.
Minister Lengor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accountability and professionalism in law enforcement, stressing that any misconduct by security personnel should be properly investigated and dealt with in line with established procedures.
