Richard Konteh Accuses Lead Tripartite Negotiator of Finalising Report in Absence of APC Members
Former APC presidential flag bearer and member of the Tripartite Committee, Dr. Richard Konteh, has explained why he did not sign the committee’s recommendations, alleging that the report was finalised without the participation of some APC members.
Dr. Konteh said he withheld his signature on principle because, in his view, the committee had not completed its work before the report was finalised.
“I did not sign the Tripartite Report out of principle, as the work was incomplete. We met and agreed to complete the work and adopt the report. In that process, we would have had to read the report line by line before adopting it and appending our signatures,” he stated.
According to Konteh, the agreed process was not followed. He alleged that the lead negotiator subsequently met with some diplomats at another location and finalised the report before summoning members to a meeting at State House at 4:00 p.m.
Konteh further claimed that the document had been concluded without the full participation of APC representatives.
Konteh’s comments raise questions about the process through which the Tripartite Committee’s final recommendations were concluded, particularly regarding the participation and consent of all committee members.
The Tripartite Committee was established to examine electoral and governance-related issues following the 2023 elections and make recommendations aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s democratic and electoral process.
