RCBank Opens Kambia Branch, Expands Banking Access to Key Border Trade Hub

KAMBIA, Northern Province — RCBank has officially opened a new branch in Kambia, bringing modern banking services closer to one of Sierra Leone’s busiest commercial and cross-border trading centers.

The opening ceremony, held on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, attracted RCBank Board Chairman and Directors, Paramount Chiefs, members of the Kambia Traders Association, local NGOs, security personnel, government officials, and a representative of the Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone.

The strong turnout highlighted Kambia’s strategic importance as a gateway for trade between Sierra Leone and Guinea.

With the establishment of the new branch, traders, farmers, importers, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will now have access to a full range of banking services locally, including account opening, fund transfers, savings, and loan facilities, eliminating the need for frequent trips to Port Loko or Freetown.

Speaking at the launch, RCBank Managing Director, Dr. Walton Ekundayo Gilpin, described the branch as a significant investment in the economic future of the district.

“This branch is more than an expansion. It is an investment in trade, livelihoods, and the future of this border community. RCBank will serve Kambia with integrity, innovation, and excellence,” he said.

Representing the Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, Director of Financial Stability, John A.T. Tucker, welcomed the development and emphasized its role in promoting financial inclusion and supporting economic growth.

“RCBank’s investment here is timely. By extending regulated banking services to border communities, we reduce cash-related risks, improve trade documentation, and provide traders and farmers with the financial tools needed to grow their businesses,” he stated.

Paramount Chiefs also welcomed the new branch, describing it as a major boost for local businesses, farmers, and families across the district.

Equipped with modern banking technology and trained personnel, the Kambia branch is expected to strengthen financial inclusion, support cross-border commerce, and contribute to the economic development of the district and surrounding communities.
