Chief Justice Remands APC Lawyer for Contempt

By Staff Writer
Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Komba Kamanda, has ordered APC counsel in the constitutional matter, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), to remain in the dock until Tuesday following a contempt ruling.
The Chief Justice ordered Kamara to remove his wig and escorted him to the dock after he failed to satisfy the Court over comments he made during Wednesday’s proceedings.
Earlier, Justice Kamanda had asked JFK to publicly apologise for what he described as “very, very degrading” comments directed at the Court, warning that the remarks could amount to contempt.
JFK maintained that he was acting in defence of the Constitution and asked the Court to accept his apology.
“I have apologized and retracted. My lord, I have opologised and then you asked me to retract, I have retracted”, JFK said.
The Chief Justice said “that cannot be an apology to say I retract”.
JFK said that My Lord, Tell me what do you want me to say, I will say it.
The Chief Justice said you asking me to tell you what to say, “Mr Kamara, this is not an argument, can please remove your wig and get to the dock”, saying that any comment you made now will be further held in contempt.
Following a 15-minute recess, the Chief Justice delivered his ruling and ordered Kamara to remain in the dock until Tuesday.
As he was escorted away, JFK told members of the Bar: “I will be back.”
