Bio Displays $100k+ Luxury Range Rover at Bo Thanksgiving Amid Economic Struggles

By Kelvin Jay

President Julius Maada Bio has drawn fresh public attention after arriving in style at this year’s Bo School Thanksgiving event in a high-end Range Rover P400 SE 2026, a premium luxury SUV estimated to cost between $113,000 and over $270,000 depending on customization and trim.

The latest appearance marks a continuation of what many observers describe as a pattern of showcasing luxury vehicles during high-profile public events. At last year’s gathering, the President was seen using a Yangwang U8 2025, further fueling public debate about government spending priorities and optics.

The 2026 Range Rover model is widely regarded as one of the most sophisticated SUVs on the market, featuring Mild Hybrid (MHEV) and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) options capable of producing up to 606 horsepower. It also boasts advanced air suspension, a 13.1-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system, and optional executive rear seating configurations designed for maximum comfort, accommodating between four and seven passengers.

However, the President’s display of luxury has sparked criticism from sections of the public, who argue that such extravagance appears out of touch with the current realities facing many Sierra Leoneans. The country continues to grapple with rising living costs, persistent transportation challenges, and ongoing electricity shortages, making the optics of high-value assets particularly sensitive.

Critics say the move reinforces perceptions that the administration is disconnected from everyday struggles, while supporters argue that presidential security and official mobility often necessitate the use of high-performance, durable vehicles.

Comparisons have also surfaced on social media, with some likening the President’s affinity for luxury to that of American rapper Rick Ross, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and collection of high-end cars.

As public discourse intensifies, the incident underscores the growing tension between leadership image and economic reality, with many calling for greater sensitivity in public displays of wealth during a time of national hardship.
