SLPP Figure Demands Apology from Bio Over Poor Communication During Middle East Visit

By Kelvin Jay

An SLPP strongman, Kwegor Amara, has called on President Julius Maada Bio to apologize to the nation following what he described as a failure by the government’s communication wing to properly inform the public about the President’s whereabouts during the recent U.S.–Iran tensions in the Middle East.

Amara criticized the lack of timely communication from both State House and the Ministry of Information, noting that the uncertainty arose at a time when heightened tensions between the United States and Iran led to the closure of airspace across parts of the region.

According to him, it was inappropriate for the President to personally clarify his location only after public speculation had intensified, stressing that it is the responsibility of the government’s communication apparatus to keep citizens adequately informed on matters of national concern.

He further called for the dismissal of the Minister of Information and presidential advisers, arguing that their failure to proactively communicate such critical information placed the President in an avoidable and uncomfortable situation.

“For President Bio to confirm that he was in the Middle East when the Iran–US strikes were ongoing is very scary, unfortunate, and unacceptable. Thank God the President returned home safe and sound,” Amara stated. He added that it would have been more appropriate for State House or the Ministry of Information to issue an official press release or hold a press conference regarding the President’s whereabouts, rather than leaving it to the President himself to make that disclosure. He maintained that the President should not have been placed in such a situation.

The comments have added to growing public discourse around governance, communication, and accountability, with citizens continuing to weigh in on the matter.
