Juba Barracks Toilet Facility Turned Dwelling Place

The Spokesman of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has disclosed that the once-strategic Juba Barracks is now in a deplorable and dilapidated condition, with parts of its toilet facilities reportedly being used as dwelling places by occupants.
Speaking on the current state of the facility, the spokesman described the situation as unfortunate and indicative of the urgent need for modernization within the country’s military infrastructure. He explained that the existing structures at Juba Barracks no longer meet acceptable standards for a professional armed force and require comprehensive redevelopment.
According to him, the military is pursuing plans to establish a modern “model barracks” system that will provide integrated facilities for personnel. The proposed development is expected to include proper residential quarters, a hospital, training grounds, as well as places of worship such as a church and a mosque — all within a well-planned and secure environment.
He further revealed that Juba Barracks has been earmarked for sale, emphasizing that any disposal process will strictly adhere to due process, transparency, and established government regulations.
Addressing the ongoing border concerns in Falaba District involving Sierra Leone and Guinea, the RSLAF spokesman stated that despite the high morale and operational readiness of Sierra Leone’s military personnel, the armed forces have deliberately chosen diplomacy over confrontation.
He stressed that while the military remains fully prepared to defend the nation’s territorial integrity, it recognizes the importance of peaceful engagement and bilateral dialogue in resolving disputes, particularly with a neighboring country. According to him, restraint and professionalism remain central to the RSLAF’s approach as diplomatic channels continue to address the situation in Falaba.
