Blackout Engulfs Freetown …as Karpowership Halts operation
For the past few days the capital city Freetown is experiencing a persistent power cut as a result of the halting of operations of karpowership that supplies electricity to many households. Reason for the action is due to the failure of Government to make outstanding payments to the electricity ship amounting to millions of dollars. Reliable sources have confirmed to Voice of Salone Newspaper that Karpowership has shutdown operation since Friday due to the failure of Government to pay the ship millions of dollars as outstanding debts. “The debt has accrued and there is little done on the Government to offset it”, reliable sources intimated Voice of Salone Newspaper last night.
When asked if the company has engaged Government about their outstanding debts, our source revealed that the management of the Ship has done the needful, but the Government is still dragging its feet to honor its own part of the agreement and this has warranted the company to shutdown its operation because they are spending alot to keep the ship up and running.
“We are buying fuel at a higher cost to keep the ship up and running, but our payment for the service is standstill”, our confidants revealed, furthering how this has prompted them to halt operation because they are running at a loss.
Because of this action, many places in Freetown are now experiencing blackout a day.
