Attorney General, Parliament Call on Sierra Leoneans to Submit Position Papers on Constitutional Amendment Bill

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, together with the Parliament of Sierra Leone, have called on Sierra Leoneans, civil society organizations, professional bodies, and other stakeholders to submit position papers and legal opinions on the proposed Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, as part of efforts to promote inclusive and participatory law-making.

Speaking on the ongoing constitutional reform process, the Attorney General emphasized that the review is open, transparent, and people-centered, urging citizens to actively engage by submitting their views to Parliament.

“We are calling on groups and individuals to submit position papers to Parliament on the Constitution of Sierra Leone Amendment Bill. This is an open process, and we want it to be owned by the people of Sierra Leone. Broad perspectives will enrich the outcome of this process. Let us do this together,” the Attorney General said.

He noted that public participation is critical to strengthening democratic governance and ensuring that constitutional amendments reflect the aspirations, values, and lived realities of the people.

The Attorney General’s call aligns with Parliament’s own appeal for position papers and expert legal opinions on the Bill, aimed at enriching the legislative scrutiny process and widening the space for inclusive debate.

Parliament has indicated that submissions from citizens, institutions, and interest groups will support informed deliberations and enhance the quality of the final outcome, reinforcing the principles of participatory democracy and accountable governance.
