Waste of Resources… Over 25 Consultancy Firms in Parliament — Hon. AKK Reveals

Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, Member of Parliament representing the All People’s Congress (APC), has raised serious concerns over what he described as the government’s wasteful spending of taxpayers’ money on unnecessary travel and consultancy expenses.

Speaking recently, Hon. Kamara pointed to Parliament itself as a major example, revealing that the institution has hired over 25 consultancy firms, each reportedly being paid on a monthly basis.

“I have never seen 25 consultants in person hired by Parliament,” he said, questioning the roles and responsibilities of the numerous consultants engaged by the institution.

The lawmaker further claimed that the problem extends across many government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), where the number of consultants exceeds that of regular staff.

“In the Ministry of Health alone, the consultants are more than the actual staff working in the ministry,” he alleged.

Hon.Kamara also criticized what he described as the inefficiency and complacency of government workers whenever the President travels abroad.

“Whenever the President is out of the country, it’s as if the whole government comes to a standstill,” he said. “Most government workers go on self-imposed holidays during such periods.”

He added that a simple visit to Freetown International Airport would reveal the scale of the problem.

“Over 300 government officials can be seen traveling or idle whenever the President is overseas,” he lamented.

Hon. Kamara called for a comprehensive review of government expenditure and accountability in the use of public funds, stressing that such practices undermine national development and the trust of taxpayers.
