“The Proposed Informal Sector Pension Scheme is a Game Changer“…NASSIT DG Asserts

The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, described the proposed Informal Sector Pension Scheme as a game changer in extending social protection to the greater majority of Sierra Leoneans.
Mr Mohamed Fuaad Daboh made this statement during the town hall meeting organised by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education in Port Loko, Northwest Region.
While lauding the determination of the President, His Excellency, Retired Brigadier General Julius Maada Bio to ensure that social protection is extended to all workers in Sierra Leone, Mr Daboh spoke about the moves his administration had taken to ensure that the President’s dream came to reality, adding, “The national game changer policy has been developed and submitted to the Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security for validation by the Informal Sector Steering Committee”.
The Director General cited the reduction in the reliance on social assistance, State resources, poverty reduction, economic stability, growth, public health, social well-being and labour market stability as some of the benefits the new Scheme will bring to the State, its citizens and the general public.
In conclusion, the NASSIT strong man assured his audience that this policy would be developed into law by August and operationalised in November this year, and called on the various Stakeholders in the process to give their unwavering support to the transformation of this policy into Law and subsequently operationalization of the Scheme.
