Termination of over 1,000 Workers… APC Karamoh Kabbah Calls For the Intervention of Mines Workers Union

Following the termination of over 1,000 workers of Koidu Holdings Limited, Opposition Politician who is also a son of the soil of Kono District, Karamoh Kabba, has called on everybody including CSOs, Mines Workers Union, and relevant stakeholders within and beyond Kono to put hands on deck, and fight for the reinstatement of the terminated workers of Koidu Holdings.
Speaking in a media interview, Kabba expressed his concern on the way and manner the workers were dismissed from work, stating how that would have a serious impact on their families. “The dismissal of these workers has a trickle- down effect on hundreds of families whose livelihood were depending on them,”, said Karamoh Kabba, and describing the sacking as disheartening, further calling on the stakeholders of Kono to console the affected workers at this very crucial moment, while finding possible ways to resolve the impasse between them and the company.
He stated that since the strike action which was followed by the dismissal of the workers, the people of Kono, especially traders are now feeling the pinch due to the drop in sales in the market. He calls on the Mines Workers Union to intervene and save its members from being unemployed.
He opined that the misunderstanding between Koidu holdings and the workers would have been resolved long ago if authorities, especially the first lady wouldn’t have ignored the ‘gross misconduct’ the workers had been accused of by the company. He, therefore, calls on the company to swallow their ego and accept the workers and also improve their conditions of service.
The Opposition Politician disclosed that before now, the council of Chiefs together with the Mines Workers Union had engaged the Management of Koidu Holdings on the need to address the Workers concerns, intimating that initially, things were going on smoothly until the intervention of the First Lady.
On the other hand, a Civil Society Activist and Media Owner, Robert Kondema Kargbo, disclosed that various CSOs have decided to come together and take legal action against Koidu Holdings for the dismissal of the workers which revolves around their fight for increase in salaries and better conditions of service.
