“Start Growing Your Own Food To Feed Inmates” …Chief Minister Urges SLCS

On Friday 1st September, 2023, the Chief Minister of SierraLeone, Dr. David Sengeh has urged the Sierra Leone Correctional Service to start thinking of growing their own food to feed inmates in the Correctional Services. “I encourage You to take agricultural activities very seriously”, the Chief Minister Tells officials of the Correctional Services, saying that he is impressed with the idea of inmates to be involved in serious agricultural work so that “they can at least grow the rice they eat”.
He stated that if the correctional service grow their own foods they will reduce the financial burden on the government for prisoners feeding, stating government spends alot of money on prisoners’ feeding.
Dr. Sengeh also spoke about the overcrowding situation bedeviling the SLCS, noting that government is looking into ways to bring that situation to an end.
“The process will be accelerated in order to bring alive a modern Correctional facility where our brothers and sisters can be kept in safer conditions,” the Minister added.
He gifted the SLCS two brand new laptops for inmates’ computer lessons, and some footballs for inmates training and exercises.
