Samura Kamara Calls For Addressing Divergent Areas In Tripartite Report
In an interview granted to the Voice of America by the 2023 APC Presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara, the VOA moderator sounded his opinions about the outcome of the Tripartite report, posing some critical questions to the APC Political heavyweight in order to get his firsthand views and reactions about recent happenings, particularly the Tripartite report.
While responding to the barrage of questions posed to him, Samura Kamara took his time to give a statistics of the votes cast in favour of him and his opponent in the June 2023 Presidential Polls, claiming that in the previous election, he got 57.1% of votes, whilst his opponent, Julius Maada Bio, secured 39% of the valid votes cast, adding that the electoral mandate of the people has been stolen in favour of Julius Maada Bio, and expressed disgust about the lack of transparency in the elections, which has hampered the country’s democratic trajectory; and therefore called for the domestication of electoral reforms to save the country’s dying democracy.
He also called for a rerun of the June election, stating how his call has been in consonance with what has been documented in the Tripartite report.
He expressed concern about the lack of consideration for divergent areas in the Tripartite report, which he and the APC rejected outrighly, furthering that the final report only mentioned these divergent areas without offering solutions.
Critiquing Samura Kamara’s statements at VOA, a popular democrary advocate, Augustine Sengbe Marah, lambasted the former, stating “He cannot eat his cake and have it back”. Digressing thoroughly into Kamara’s interview, Marrah pointed out that Kamara agreed to the process, despite unclear terms of reference, participated throughout and publicly signed the final report.
He described Kamara’s interview as one that reveals the leadership of the main opposition party, but noted his reluctance to delve into the internal dynamics of political parties.
