Rokel Bank and MD Dr. Gilpin Bag Multiple Awards for Excellence and Social Impact
Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB), one of Sierra Leone’s leading financial institutions, has added to its growing list of accolades, receiving multiple prestigious awards for outstanding performance, integrity, and contributions to national development.
On Wednesday, 30th July 2025, the bank was honored with three major recognitions, including a Certificate of Merit from the National Union of Civil Society Organizations (NUCSO), naming RCB the Best Bank in Sierra Leone for 2024–2025. NUCSO commended the bank for “outstanding integrity and dedicated performance.”
RCB’s Managing Director, Dr. Walton Ekundayo Gilpin, was also singled out for praise, receiving NUCSO’s Best Managing Director & CEO in the Sierra Leone Banking Sector award for 2024–2025. NUCSO lauded his transformative leadership, which it said has set “a benchmark for excellence” in the financial sector.
RCB’s social impact work was also recognized. The ICBAI Sierra Leone Spelling Bee awarded the bank a Certificate of Recognition for its long-standing support, including sponsoring the 2019 trip to Uganda for 60 participants, backing the 2022 global ambassador Isa Yeama Lucy Lawson in Dubai, and celebrating her repeat win as Africa’s Best Speller in 2024. Yeama personally congratulated Dr. Gilpin on his reappointment, thanking RCB for its role in nurturing young talent.
In addition, Star Zee’s Ladies Fest 2025 — organized by the artist in partnership with Doz-Kabaal Multimedia — presented RCB with a certificate of appreciation for its “unwavering support” in making the inaugural festival a success.
Responding to the accolades, Dr. Gilpin expressed gratitude to all the awarding bodies, noting that recognition from independent organizations affirms RCB’s status as a “pace-setter in the banking sector.”
“When we began this journey in 2017, we never imagined this level of determination and recognition,” he said. “Rokel stands as a change agent and a difference-maker. We are not just a bank — we are a symbol of innovation, empowerment, and excellence.”
Special acknowledgment was also given to RCB’s Public Relations Department, with PRO Aruna Dumbuya praised for his leadership in projecting the bank’s vision and brand.
The awards underscore Rokel Commercial Bank’s dual role as a leader in financial services and a driver of social change, with strong engagement in youth development, education, and women-led initiatives — all contributing to Sierra Leone’s progress.
