Presidential Gender Adviser Claims Some Men Steal Public Funds To Satisfy Their Concubines

Former First Lady and current Presidential Adviser on Gender, Isata Jabbie Kabba, has stated that corruption in Sierra Leone could significantly decline if women were given greater opportunities to lead the country.

Speaking to Truth Media, Kabba argued that many of the challenges facing the nation are largely driven by men occupying positions of authority. According to her, a considerable level of corruption is fueled by men attempting to sustain multiple romantic relationships and the financial pressures that come with them.

She alleged that many men in the country maintain several girlfriends and often resort to corrupt practices to meet their demands.

“Most of the men in this country have more than five girlfriends, and in order to satisfy them they steal public money to build houses and meet their demands,” she said.

Kabba also highlighted what she described as the rising cost of luxury items used to impress partners, noting that the price of human hair has increased to as much as Le8,000. She said some men prioritize spending on their girlfriends while leaving their wives and families to struggle.

The former First Lady further reflected on her time as President of the All Political Parties Women Association, explaining that the organization once enjoyed strong support from international partners.

However, she lamented that the progress of the association later stalled due to a lack of sustained backing. According to Kabba, successive governments failed to provide consistent support, which ultimately weakened the organization and limited its ability to continue promoting women’s participation in politics and governance.
