President Bio Reveals Presence in Middle East During Airspace Closure Amid U.S.–Iran Tensions

His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has disclosed that he was in a Middle East country when heightened tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran led to the closure of regional airspace.

Speaking during the Eid-Ul-Fitri Prayers at State lodge, President Bio recounted being in the region at the time strikes reportedly began, describing the tense atmosphere as military actions unfolded.

“I was in the Middle East when the strikes started and bombs were being exchanged,” he said.

The President noted that while some critics speculated he might be stranded due to the airspace shutdown, authorities in the host country assured him of their full support and safety.

“Some people thought I would be stuck there, but God is great. The same people [host authorities] told me they would ensure I return home safely,” he added.

According to President Bio, officials informed him that whenever he was ready to leave, arrangements would be made to facilitate his departure despite the restrictions.

“They told me when I am ready to leave their country, they will take me out ‘the soldier way’—and they did,” he said, expressing appreciation for the assistance he received.

He further commended the host nation for their concern and swift coordination, noting that special arrangements were made to enable his return at a time when civilian flights were largely suspended due to the security situation.

President Bio’s remarks shed light on the challenges faced by leaders and travelers during sudden geopolitical escalations, particularly in regions prone to rapid security developments.
