PPRC Begins Hearing on Sam-Sumana’s Case Against APC

The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has begun hearing a complaint filed by former Vice President Alhaji Sam Sumana against the All People’s Congress (APC).

In his petition, Sam-Sumana challenges a clause in the APC’s constitution which he claims is discriminatory and inconsistent with Sierra Leone’s 1991 Constitution.

The contested provision reportedly bars certain individuals—including Sam-Sumana—from contesting for leadership positions within the party. The former vice president argues that the clause infringes on his constitutional right to political participation, as guaranteed to every citizen under national law.

The PPRC’s proceedings mark a critical test for intraparty democracy and constitutional compliance within one of Sierra Leone’s major political parties. The Commission is expected to review arguments from both sides before delivering its ruling in the coming days.
