The Poro Society of Mattru Jong in Bonthe District in the Southern Province has declared Hudson Bryan Weekes wanted for refusing to take over the mantle of leadership in the Poro Society and serving as his father’s Successor.
Hudson Bryan Weekes, a native of Mattru Jong who lives in No. 2 Smith Street Mattru Jong, Bonthe District, in the Southern Part of SierraLeone is presently on the run for fear of being initiated into the Poro Society. Weekes was living with his mother in the aforesaid address before his escape.
Voice of Salone Newspaper Southern Correspondent, in his report, stated that Hudson Bryan Weekes father Pa Hudson Weekes is a senior member of the Poro Society in Mattru Jong. His father was alleged to have took over from his father, a custom and tradition which over the years has become a taboo.
It was understood that Hudson grandfather Pa Weekes was alleged to have passed on the ring of leadership to his Son Pa Hudson Weekes who during his reign decided to also pass on same to his only son, Hudson Bryan Weekes.
According to the customs and traditions of the Society, when a senior of the society dies, his son is supposed to replace him six months after, either willingly or unwillingly. The society has earmarked Hudson to serve as shrine caretaker in the society, a position that he vehemently rejected.
The consequence for refusing to accept the dictate of the society is death as the society members have declared Hudson Wanted and haunting him for his life.
Three months after the demise of his father Pa Weekes, a group of young men dressed in red and white stormed the house of Hudson in the evening hours to forcefully capture him, but he was no longer to be found, as report says he managed to escape through the widow of the house by the help of his mother, Mrs. Victoria Francess Weekes.
During his escape, sources say, Hudson was spotted walking in the forest and searching for safe haven.
An Elderly Woman in the neighborhood, Kadiatu Bangura, confirmed to this Press that she spotted Hudson in the Forest at the time she was returning from her farm.
Whilst in the forest, Hudson, a strong believer in Christianity, was rescued by some Jehovah Witness Church members who took him to their home, our sources reveal.
Upon explaining his situation to them, the Church Members exhibited empathy for him and volunteered to assist him by facilitating his travel outside of SierraLeone. The Church members, according to information, facilitated all the necessary arrangements for Hudson to immediately leave SierraLeone in protection of his life.
Hudson departed SierraLeone on 15th May,2022 and arrived in London 17th May,2022 with one of the Pastors of the Jehovah Witness Church.
Family sources revealed to this press that Hudson had left London to settle in Ireland, a country where he is currently living.
Hudson could not be reached for his own side of the story despite several efforts made by this press.
It is important to note that the Poro Society in Mattru Jong is known for shedding human blood, cutting of human body, drinking of human blood and offering of ritual sacrifices.
