Police Officers Cry for Justice

The punisher of law breakers, otherwise known as the Sierra Leone Police, has been brought under the spotlight for trampling upon the rights of their compatriots who have served the country selflessly and risking their lives for the sake of Peace keeping mission abroad.

These police officers are those that represented the SierraLeon Police in a peacekeeping mission in Somalia, but have now been paid a bad price for their sacrifices.

On the 4th October, 2023, a team of Police officers comprising of 159 personnel arrived in Sierra Leone from Somalia after serving the Africa Union Transmission mission in Somalia (ATMIS) for eighteen (18) Months.

Upon their arrival, the officers had been denied the rights to live with their families and love ones, causing the management of the Police to providing them with accommodations at the Police Headquarters and PTS, after spending months risking their lives in Somalia.

At the various accommodations, the officers are living in an unhealthy environment as they are proned to all kinds of sicknesses. That environments are exposed to diseases like Malaria and many more, which has affected them seriously, resulting many to complain of illnesses with no proper medical facility given to them.

However, as if that is not enough, the management of the Sierra Leone police has also deprived the officers of their 11 months’ backlog allowance.

After several attempts made by the officers to know about their backlog payment, the concerned Authority after making several promises later referred them to crosscheck with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation about their payment, an enquiry that is still hanging in the balance with no hope for the future.

The fate of these police officers is in bleak as they are still confused whether they are going to receive their backlog allowances or not.
