Peace Keeping Police Officers are Suffering in Silence

The Peace Keeping Police officers are currently suffering in silence after representing their country in Peace Keeping Mission in Somalia.

On the 4th October 2023, a team of police officers comprising 159 personnel arrived in Sierra Leone from Somalia after serving the Africa Union Transmission mission in Somalia (ATMIS) for eighteen (18) Months.

Since their arrival, the said officers have been kept at PTS depriving them to live and be with their family and love one.  It is reported that over 50 of these officers have been moved from PTS and lodged at the Police Headquarters car park where they are currently sleeping with no proper facility. These officers are living in unhealthy environment as they are trapped with all kinds of sicknesses.

Furthermore, the said officers had only been paid seven (7) months allowance, leaving their remaining eleven (11) months allowance unpaid. What came out clearly after several attempt made to know about their remaining allowances, it is said that their allowance is with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation and when once it is ready, they will know.

The fate of these police officers to receive their backlog allowance is still hang in the balance as politics has taken a centre stage, labelling them as ‘APC Police Officers’.
