No Grace Period for SLPP and APC – PPRC Chairman Warns

The Chairman of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), Emmanuel Koivaya Amara Esq., has declared that the grace period previously extended to the two major political parties — the SLPP and APC — has officially ended.

Speaking on the issue of inflammatory remarks and violations, the PPRC Chairman stated that the Commission will no longer issue warnings to the two dominant parties, stressing that stricter enforcement measures will now apply.

“We will not warn the SLPP and APC again until the close of the electoral calendar. We can now only warn the smaller political parties, but not the SLPP and APC. Their grace period is over,” he stated.

According to Mr. Amara, the decision follows repeated incidents of inflammatory language, particularly throughout 2025, which he said negatively affected the country’s peace and stability.

“In 2025, the public space was awash with foul language that was not good for the peace of this country, especially from players within the SLPP and APC,” he explained.

He disclosed that the Commission had previously summoned the leadership of both parties to a meeting to address the matter. During that engagement, he said, both parties acknowledged their actions and committed to improving their conduct.

“At that meeting, both parties admitted they had no defence and agreed that they needed to change. They signed an agreement committing themselves to better behaviour,” he added.

The PPRC Chairman emphasized that moving forward, the Commission will enforce its regulations without further warnings to the SLPP and APC, as part of efforts to promote responsible political engagement and safeguard national cohesion.
