New Chairperson Gives SLPP MP 72 Hours to Retract Alleged Blackmail

By Kelvin Jay
Civil society activist Marcella Samba Sesay has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to SLPP MP Hon.Hindolo Moiwo Gevao, demanding that he retract statements she described as blackmail against her.
Speaking during an interview on Liberty TV, Sesay accused the politician of using the media to tarnish her reputation by linking her to political parties. She warned that if the statements are not withdrawn within the stipulated 72 hours, she will take further legal action.
Sesay maintained that the allegations have damaged her public image, particularly claims suggesting that she is affiliated with the All People’s Congress. She emphasized that this is not the first time political actors have attempted to associate her with partisan politics, noting that in the past she has also been linked to the Sierra Leone People’s Party and other political interests.
According to Sesay, her commitment has always been to civil society work rather than party politics. She challenged both the APC and the SLPP to present credible evidence proving that she has any formal affiliation with their parties.
Reflecting on her activism over the years, Sesay recalled an incident when current President Julius Maada Bio was in opposition. She said she confronted the police during a tense situation in which security forces were reportedly firing near the President’s residence at the time. She stated that she warned officers that any unlawful actions would be exposed internationally and that she would pursue accountability.
The civil society advocate also criticized politicians for what she described as the spread of “fake news.” She stressed that the National Election Watch (NEW) operates as an open and independent organization and does not require validation from political actors.
Sesay further stated that her resolve remains firm and that she is willing to appear before Parliament if NEW is invited, as has been suggested in some discussions.
Reiterating her position, she said Hon. Gevao has 72 hours to retract the alleged statements or face legal action.
