MCC To Start Negotiations With Salone on Compact Grant

In a significant development, the MCC has notified the U.S. congress of its intention to start Millennium challenge compact negotiations with the government of Sierra Leone. This move has been hailed by many SierraLeoneans as it would help to bolstering energy infrastructure with a planned $480M funding for a crucial project.

The proposed SierraLeone power compact is a single sector compact that builds on successful MCC investment in the power sector made during Sierra Leone threshold program that was in force from 2016-2021.

In the transmittal letter signed by  Aysha House, Vice President Congressional and Public Affairs, she emphasised on MCC uniqueness to deliver transformative change by making foundational investments in the power sector to deliver more reliable, cleaner, and cheaper electricity that can catalyze economic growth, while at the same time connecting SierraLeone to the West African power pool.

The MCC Move signals a strategic partnership aimed at fostering sustainable development and enhancing energy capabilities in SierraLeone.

It is noteworthy of the fact that the forthcoming negotiations between MCC and the government hold promise for fostering positive growth, cooperation, and progress in the energy sector and will reflects a meaningful commitment to drive impactful change and set the stage for mutual benefits and advancements in SierraLeone’s energy landscape.

This collaboration underscores a shared vision for progress and exemplifies the potential for transformative initiatives when nations join forces for a common goal.

However, when the news broke out, many SierraLeoneans are praying for the best to happen, thereby calling on the President to declare national prayers and fasting for the MCC’s money. “It’s high time for President Bio to declare a national prayer and fasting for the MCC money”, said a patriotic SierraLeoneans who spoke to this press.
