Lack of Communication Between SLPP and APC Hindering Implementation of Tripartite Committee Recommendations — Hawa Samai

The Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), Hawa Samai, has stated that the lack of effective communication between the country’s two main political parties remains a major obstacle to the implementation of the recommendations made by the Tripartite Committee.

Samai noted that the strained relationship between the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) continues to create difficulties in advancing the reform process outlined by the committee.

Speaking on the issue, she emphasized that dialogue, cooperation, and mutual trust between the two parties are essential for the successful implementation of the committee’s recommendations, which were established to address electoral concerns and strengthen democratic governance in Sierra Leone.

According to Samai, the Tripartite Committee’s work was intended to promote national cohesion and restore confidence in the country’s democratic institutions following the political tensions that emerged after the 2023 elections. However, she explained that progress has been slow due to limited engagement and communication between the two political sides.

She stressed that sustained dialogue between the government and the opposition is critical for ensuring that the recommendations are not only adopted but also effectively implemented for the benefit of the country.

The ICPNC Executive Secretary therefore called on both the SLPP and the APC to prioritize national interest over political differences and engage in constructive discussions that would help move the process forward.

Samai further reiterated that strengthening communication channels between the two parties would play a key role in promoting peace, political stability, and democratic progress in Sierra Leone.
