“Kush is a Lucrative Business and Difficult to Fight” …President Bio Tells S/Leoneans In U.S

By Kelvin Jay

His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has acknowledged the growing challenge of combating narcotics in Sierra Leone, describing the trade in drugs such as kush as “lucrative” and therefore difficult to eradicate.

“Kush is a lucrative business. People are making millions out of it, and they will do anything to get their way,” President Bio remarked.

Speaking during an engagement with Sierra Leoneans in the United States, the President highlighted the complexity of the fight against substance abuse and narcotics trafficking, stressing that the profitability of the illegal trade continues to drive its persistence.

He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to confront the scourge of drug abuse, which has disproportionately affected young people in Sierra Leone.

President Bio further called for stronger collaboration among communities, law enforcement agencies, and international partners, framing the issue as both a security threat and a public health crisis.

“This is not an easy fight. But we remain committed to saving our young people and protecting the future of our nation,” he emphasized.
