The Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala, has during a press briefing where he updated Journalists about the stolen monies recovered from corrupt individuals has expressed his distrust over the Judiciary particularly in handling Corruption case.
The ACC Boss highlighted the challenges faced by the Commission in the fight against Corruption, which according to him, hinges on the failure of the Judiciary to impose custodian sentence on individuals found culpable for corruption, adding how this setback has posed serious challenge to the ACC in the fight against corruption.
“The reason why I am enforcing the collection of stolen monies is because the judiciary has not helped the ACC in recovering state looted funds”, the ACC Boss revealed, adding by explaining the ACC power as enshrined in the ACC which gives the commission the power to prosecute or recover stolen funds.
He said the Judiciary is defeating the fight against Corruption by refusing to impose custodian sentence on those found wanton for corruption, yet the Judiciary is doing what they feel like doing by refusing to do the needful, adding that “if we have to defeat corruption in SierraLeone, we need to make corruption very expensive by locking up corrupt individuals”.
He explained the power conferred on the ACC and explained the mandate of the Commission which is to fight corruption in not only government entities but private entities as a whole.
