Guma Board Embarks on Strategic Project Oversight Tour with New Managing Director

The Board of Directors of the Guma Valley Water Company and a cross section of the top management carried out a two-day strategic field visit on the 18th and 19th of November 2025, touring key capital projects, reviewing completed facilities, and assessing operational challenges across the Western Urban and Western Rural Areas.

The visit formed an important part of the Company’s Fourth Quarter Workplan and reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strong oversight, improved project delivery, and enhanced water services.

This engagement was particularly significant as it marked the first major operational review for the new Managing Director, Ing. Mariwan Kallon. Accompanying the Board throughout the visit, he used the opportunity to gain deeper insights into the Company’s infrastructure investments, project performance, and operational constraints.

During the tour, the Board inspected major project zones including Wilberforce—where they reviewed the new Wilberforce office site, the Wilberforce Village Tank, and the Governor’s Lodge Tank. At Hill Station, members visited the Circular Tank and other ongoing works. The team also assessed progress along the Babadorie–Regent corridor, including the nine new tanks project and the completed Babadorie Circular Reservoir.

Additional stops included the completed Angola Water System facility, the Mambo pipeline works, the Spur Road Reservoir, the rehabilitated Kongo Dam, and the Allen Town rehabilitation and expansion project.

While several projects were found to be progressing well, the Board noted that two were moving more slowly than planned due to internal process delays and contractor-related issues.

The contractors acknowledged these concerns and reaffirmed their commitment to improving coordination and accelerating the work.

The Board encouraged improved communication, timely submission of technical documentation, and early escalation of challenges to support smoother project delivery.

In his response, the Managing Director emphasized his commitment to reinforcing governance systems, enhancing collaboration among project teams, and strengthening accountability across departments and contractor engagements.

He stressed that these measures will help drive faster progress and ensure successful completion of all project activities.

The field visit highlighted the Board’s dedication to effective governance, timely project execution, and reliable service delivery. The involvement of the new Managing Director added renewed energy to GVWC’s project oversight efforts and underscored the Company’s determination to achieve measurable improvements.

At the close of the engagement, Ing. Mariwan Kallon expressed appreciation to the Board for their guidance and pledged to prioritize efficiency, transparency, and results-driven management.
