Guinea Deports Hundreds Of Sierra Leoneans
A Video footage examined by Voice of Salone Newspaper revealed how hundreds of Sierra Leoneans were deported by the Guinean Authorities.
No official statement for the deportation of the Sierra Leoneans was made by the Guinean Government, but report indicates that the decision is as a result of their illegal dealings, which has posed serious security threat to the Guinean Government.
The video footages showing how SierraLeoneans were bundled in Guinean army truck and transported to the Sierra Leone Border in Gbalamuya, faced widespread condemnation and raises questions about human rights abuse perpetrated by the Guinea Government.
Responding to this issue, the Sierra Leone Police issued a Press Statement on 12th December,2024, detailing what transpired at the border when the individuals, purported to be Sierra Leoneans, were transported by the Guinean Authorities.
They explained about the standoff that took place at the border on grounds that the identities of the transported individuals were uncertain, and therefore, were refused entry, thereby calling on Guinea to follow establish protocol to repatriate foreign nationals.
In subsequent paragraph of the Press release, the police affirmed that Guinea has since issued an official notification regarding the planned repatriation and that the individuals are now undergoing health and Security screenings to confirm their identities, noting that after the verification process, they will be reintegrated across the country.
As the situation is ongoing, the fate of the affected individuals are unknown.
