Gov’t Stabilizes Retail Prices of Rice Nationwide

Following an agreement entered between rice importers, and the Ministry of Trade on the reduction of rice price, the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Trade and Industry after consultation with the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, Sierra Leone Police and Indigenous Transporters Association, had taken the bold step and putting measures in place by cutting down the transport charges of rice to ensure this reduction reflect the lives of the final consumers.
In a statement, the Ministry of Trade confirmed its commitment in stabilizing rice prizes nationwide and further stating that that the below prices were agreed upon after extensive discussions with key stakeholders to ensure affordability and accessibility.
The prices for 50kg bag of rice are as follow:

The Ministry emphasized that these prices are inclusive of all costs associated with transporting and distributing the commodity from wholesale to retail outlets.
The Ministry also called on retailers to adhere strictly to the stated prices and assured the public of its continued efforts to monitor and regulate the rice market.
