GEED Foundation Provides Emergency Relief to UNIMAK Hostel Fire Victims

In a heartwarming display of love, affection and solidarity for women and girls, the Gilo Education and Economic Development (GEED) Foundation has on Wednesday, 17th April 2024 donated food and other essential items to victims of a fire accident that occurred in a female hostel at the University of Makeni (UNIMAK).
Earlier this week, fire broke out in a female hostel at UNIMAK’s Yoni Campus located on the outskirts of Makeni – completely destroying large parts of the building as well as valuable student’s possessions. The incident left over 60 female students traumatized and with very little or nothing for their basic upkeep.
Responding to the Student Union Government plea for emergency assistance, the GEED Foundation, led by its Executive Director, Asilia Jartue- Gilpin swiftly responded with a modest donation that was described by the Registrar of the University, Foday Augustine Bangura as very timely.
“We are not just here to provide these basic items, we are also here to reassure you that you are not alone and that in moments like these, you have to be steadfast and remain strong as what lies ahead of you is far greater than what you may have lost in that unfortunate fire….”* said GEED’s Executive Director, Asilia Jartue – Gilpin who also conveyed the organization’s founder, Dr Walton Ekundayo Gilpin’s message of hope and solidarity to the affected female students.
