On Friday 11th August, 2023, Afrimoney signed a partnership agreement with Afrimoney for the use of its service for the buying of petroleum products to all Conex Filling stations in the country. The Partnership agreement between Afrimoney and Conex was signed in Jui in the Western Rural of Freetown.

In his opening remarks, Afrimoney Director, Martison Obeng-Agyei explained the significant benefits of the partnership, adding that Afrimoney subscribers are now eligible to purchase diesel, petrol, and other petroleum products using the Afrimoney wallet.

He added that the world has moved towards digital banking and Sierra Leone can’t be an exception to that.

“Gone are those days when drivers and vehicle owners have to move with a substantial amount of cash to purchase petroleum products, thereby exposing themselves to theft and robbery”, he said, noting in this 21st Century, you just need to have your money in your mobile wallet to transact payments for services to the Conex filling stations and that could be done at a faster pace.

He disclosed that SierraLeoneans need to discredit the movement of huge amount of cash when the Afrimoney service is available, as it prevents theft and other illicit activities.

According to Avrajit Kar, Managing Director Conex Energy SL Ltd., Afrimoney subscribers can now be able to purchase petroleum products in all Conex facilities across the country using the Afrimoney service.

He applauded the partnership with Afrimoney, calling it a step in the right direction to uplifting mobile banking in petroleum business. He emphasized that in India where he came from, people hardly move around with physical  cash, noting that all transactions are done through digital money in India.

He expressed hope that the partnership with Afrimoney will thrive and eventually get people addicted to the use of mobile money which is very much safe and secured.

Joe Abass Bangura, Africell’s Chief Cooperate Officer, stated that Afrimoney is geared towards revolutionizing the country from physical cash to E- cash.

He concluded by stating that the world has moved towards digital banking and Sierra Leone shouldn’t be an exception to that trend.
